Guidance Needed for Freelancing - 02-21-2007, 03:31 PM

Sorry for the cross posting.

I have been approached by a local weekly newspaper to do some freelancing for them. It will be local sports, local government, digitary events, and the like.

That's fine, and I intend to accept. As I say in my profile, I am retired and I intend to stay that way. My intention is to give the paper good quality work, and I make a few dollars to support my photography habit.

My question is this: what is fair recompense and how is it done? I've been taking photos for many years, but I've always spent money doing it, never made any money. If you will, please tell me what the normal process is for free lancers.

Thanx in advance -

small local papers may pay $25 for a front page photo, and less for inside.
Larger metro papers will pay twice that and more.
Just come out and ask them what they will pay. It's always good to be paid for something you would have done for free.
