Photojournalist Ashley Gilbertson puts the new Leica M8 digital rangefinder to work while on assignment in the world's hottest war zone.

People ask about the role of the Range Finder in PJ work today. Well here's on PJ who see's it has a role.

A most interesting story, John - thanx for the link.

I noted that the much dreaded magenta cast was present (I guess she didn't want to use the filter Leica provided), but she shrugged off the problem as minor.

Any thoughts as to whether your RD-1 would have fared as well? (Ok - beyond the "accidental" fall to the marble floor.) The idea of a rangefinder appeals to me a lot, but not at $5k, plus a couple of lenses at $2k to $3k each.

Interestingly, the cameras were loaners from Leica and they didn't provide the cut filters.

Here's some more on the same use of RF from the people at Lightstalkers who are a very hard bunch of PJ.

a la' Cartier-Bresson PJ?

I'm always hearing about how PJ used to be dominated by Leica and Nikon RF's.
