A Tale of Three Cities - 06-21-2008, 09:17 AM

Moises Saman, a photographer with The New York Times, traveled to a Basra, Baghdad and Mosul. to document the military operations and changes in daily life.

Note his use of very high contrast B&W. This continues to reinforce my thinking B&W is still the best for war work.

I like b&w but I have to say I'm not impressed by his work. Contrast is one thing, but out of focus is another and I see too many oof images here.

Justy my .02 cents.

I would agree, David. Instead of letting the image speak for itself, he's gone artsy-fartsy and attempted to interpret it.

Well, I guess it's best if you want to a put a little bias into your reporting.

The kind of bias that Capa, David Douglas Duncan, Nachtway, Don McCullin put into their work in B&W?
