Firefighter recruit test - 12-09-2008, 03:18 PM

Earlier this year (in a previous life as editor of a weekly newspaper), I was looking for some standalone art for the paper and had noted a firefighter recruit test going on. Went and took some photos while this woman was going through the rigorous course.

Turns out she has quite a moving story to tell. Her name is Sheila Elliott and you can see a story the Morning News published about her on Mother's Day here. One of her sons was born with a heart defect, and because of his determination it inspired her to try out to be a firefighter/paramedic. I didn't end up doing a story because she wasn't from our coverage area.

Definitely tough. At this point she was disqualified for taking too long on the ladder, but the organizers let her go through the course to give her some more practice. She is one tough lady! She was also Mrs. Frisco a few years ago.

That's awesome! As a Firefighter myself, I tip my hat to all those that try out for one helluva job!
