Train Collision - 04-01-2009, 04:31 PM

So I was in the area and happened to see this train collision. It was so horrific....THANK GOD the EMS showed up just in time. And the smile on that train's face...what a shame!

Enjoy!

Camera set up (maybe the settings will tell why I have more blur than focal points)

Nikon D200
24-70mm at 42mm
ISO 140 f/3.2 1/100

The small amount of image in focus is due to a very narrow depth of field at f3.2. If you drop the speed to something you can still hand hold or get a tripod, you can narrow your aperture down to say F8 or better and get more of the scene in focus...

Sure, but not for the driver of that motorcycle.

They're just lucky they didn't have a major derailment and possible hazmat spill!

Actually I kinda like the shallow DOF in the first photo.

Glad to see that some good stuff is being posted in the photojournalism section.

Thanks sporkthedork!
Hey this is what happens when you have a love for Hot Wheels and end up giving your 2 yr old some (starting before he turned 2) and you gotta make up stories when you play cars. I found a police car in his stash, maybe I should re-create the scene with the officer on the scene of the accident as well instead of just the EMS. Also have many hellicopters but all their propellers have been ripped off.
