The Power of One- First Dress Rehearsal (lots of images) - 04-10-2009, 08:32 AM

I was fortunate enough to be able to shoot the first dress rehearsal of an Easter play that my church is putting on. I am planning to shoot the 4th and final dress rehearsal as well. The lighting guy didn't show for these shots but they pulled it off pretty well I thought. I'm hoping that the final dress rehearsal will be a full on production that uses all of the props.

I shot most of these with an EOS1DMKIII. ISO was at H. Handheld. 70-200 f2.8L IS. No flash allowed. The wide shots are with an EOS1DsMKIII (my Taco Bell camera) and a 14mm f2.8L II lens. ISO on H as well.

Happy Easter

Michael, on all the images I get a statement "content protected by owner" with a lock. Sure would like to see what was there..

Strange... I can see them but it's my site so maybe that's the deal... I'll try removing the PW. Now that the cast has seen them I don't think it's a big deal.

Refresh and see if they show up now...

Me too Truthfully... I probably missed a lot of shots because I was so engrossed in the play and the technical aspects of producing something on this scale.

They broadcast on Christian.TV.. well.. it's not exactly broadcast as much as it is uploaded video... I don't know when or if The Power of One is going to be uploaded...

Search for Faith Family Church in Victoria, TX or Pastor Jim Graff

Man, I want to see that play.

Looks like lighting is gonna be a pain in the rear to shoot, so I don't blame you if you just wanna watch it instead of shooting

Thanks...

I think that Saturdays rehearsal should be better as far as lighting goes. One things for sure, it was all over the place when I shot these. RAW is your friend

Mike - How did you post process these photos (i.e. what program, what color adjustments)? Did you do any noise reduction? Thanks!

Shot in RAW

I tried to slightly over expose due to the high ISO I had to use. That helps with noise issues. So does being able to shoot at ISO 6400

I use Noiseware Pro for noise removal. It seems to work the best (compared to Noise Ninja and the RAW editor in CS4)

Cropping, straightening, exposure (black and white point), contrast, brightness, saturation, white balance - All adjusted as needed in ACR.

I batched processed TIF files that I saved from ACR. The batch order was:

(1) Noiseware Pro. I made an action that uses the preset that I also created in Noiseware Pro

(2) TheEdge. This is a Kevin Kubota action that punches the color and contrast up. It's more subtle than Daily Multivitamin. It also sharpens slightly

(3) Save L10 JPG II 3600 px. Simple action that I wrote and use to set the long side to 3600 pixels and apply progressive sharpening. Sometimes I uncheck various steps of the progressive sharpening as it tends to over sharpen smaller files. The files that I posted are links from my website so I was able to upload larger files than I usually post here.

(4) Copyright 2009 action. It corrects a screwup I have in the action I use in (3). I should probably fix that

Once I'm through in ACR I can knock out a couple of hundred images in an hour or so...

All music is performed live... The band / performers are very talented. The dress rehearsal didn't include the band.

Well... it turns out that the 4th dress rehearsal wasn't. I showed up early and noticed that there were a lot of people there I'm thinking... what the heck man??? how am I going to get any shots with all these people wandering around? Apparently I got my wires crossed Tonight was the first full on production. It was amazing. I wasn't exactly dressed for it and I didn't get to move around like I wanted to but I got a few shots. 815 shots... It'll be a while before I post them. But... WOW...

Wow, what a production! Hope the actual performance went well; you got some great shots of the rehearsal.

Taco Bell camera? Man, if it's a 1Ds Mark III, yo quiero Taco Bell camera!
