It looks like we've got three great entries. Vote for your favorites. Voting will close after 5 days.
Gabby498 (aka Gary) has come up with our new challenge. Sorry it took me so long to post it. Please let me or Gary know if you have any questions on the rules and we'll try to clarify them. Again, you'll have two weeks to submit your entries and the challenge will close on May 9th (provided that I don't have a baby early and end up MIA again). Good luck!!!
Per Gabby498 - Here's your challenge: Quote:
In light of Foto Fest 2006 being in Houston this year, I propose that we create a fictitious Houston photographic arts gallery and design a Foto Fest 2006 poster for that gallery. To avoid any conflict with the real Foto Fest we are going to call our shindig Festival 2006.
Start off with a 9” x 12” or 12” x 9” blank canvas to build the poster on.
I have supplied images of downtown Houston. Chose either one or any combination of these images as the background for the poster. The background image or images can be manipulated in any way that you feel enhances the graphic quality of the poster and sets off your work—desaturation, posterization, over saturation—anything goes. Poster can be portrait or landscape—you are the designer, select the Houston background that will best fit with your work and strut your stuff. The background image does not have to cover the entire background, but should be at least half of the poster area. Additonal graphic elements such as frame for your images, lines, circles—whatever your see as a cohesive graphic design for the poster.
Then use from one to four of your own images that you would like to see in a gallery during Foto Fest. Apply these images over the background in any arrangement that you feel is graphically aesthetic. There are only two stipulations on your images—please do not use nudes since this will not be on a restricted area and limit the area of the personal photographs to one half or less of the poster’s area.
Then title the poster with “Festival 2006”, “Houston, Texas”, “TPF Image Galleries”
and add a blurb like “featuring the photographic work of (your name or a pseudonym if you wish). Or hype your images anyway that you feel works on a poster.
Looking for creative design, color harmony, ability to catch the eye, a poster that makes Festival 2006, TPF Image Galleries and their featured photographer, you, look inviting.
To get the ball rolling, I have included a some sample posters, to give you an idea of elements that would fit the requirements. These are not part of the contest.
OUTLINE of REQUIREMENTED ELEMENTS:
(1) Begin with a 9”x12” or a 12”x9” blank canvas to build on—reduce it to 50% or better for posting.
(2) Must use one or more of the attached images for the background covering a minimum of one half the poster area
(3) May add from one to four of your own images, limited to one half or less of the poster area.
(4) Must have the following text somewhere legible on the poster
a. Festival 2006
b. Houston, Texas
c. TPF Image Galleries
d. A short blurb describing the display of your images at the gallery—toot your own horn for all it’s worth—no points for false modesty.

Will try to put something together this weekend or next week. Of course, why bother ?Looks like you guys have it sewed up already !! ha-ha

Since this challenge seems to be a bit more in depth than some of the other ones we've had and we only have two entries so far, I'm extending it another week. It will now end next Tuesday (May 15th). Hopefully we can get a few more entries, but I know it's a busy season right now.
If I'm MIA, I'll ask one of the other mods to add the poll for voting and whatnot.

I thought I would give this a try. May have to fudge a little on rule #3 above, but that's the breaks, it's not like there's a whole lot of competition at this point. Though the two entries and the samples are quite good. Hope you guys like it.

I think our preggers moderator has had a new development to deal with over the last few weeks, but I think we'll see it revived soon!
