Ps #26 - Day to Night Challenge - Voting ends April 7th - 03-10-2007, 10:05 AM

Challenge type: Day to Night Challenge (see Challenge Types)
Challenge Requirement(s): Take this image which was shot in the day, and make it look like it was captured at night
Challenge Begins: March 10th
Voting Begins: March 31st
Voting Ends: April 7th
Submitters Notes: For some samples of this technique look at these sample images!
Images: 1

WINNER'S SPOILS
  • Wins the right to choose the next challenge type!
  • Gets to submit the challenge images!
  • Has the option to post their techniques after voting is closed!
  • Wins Texas-sized bragging rights!
  • Gets a Canon 1Ds Mark V! (all purchase funds provided by the winner)(Offer not valid after 2002)
CHALLENGE TYPES
Here are the challenge types that the winner can pick from for the next contest (or make up your own):
  • Client Image Challenge: Change the original image to meet the clients needs or request. This can be as simple as changing the mood of a portrait, or making a full-blown press-ready ad image. This is what we do!
  • Image Combination Challenge: Combine between three and five images into one final image. Make them laugh, make them cry..it's up to you!
  • Logo Challenge: Create a business, product, or ad campaign logo from the element(s) provided. Smith's Photography...Uber-Clean Cleanser...anti-jaywalking campaigns...they all need a logo!
  • Day to Night Challenge: May a daytime image look like it was captured at night.
Good luck everyone!

Thanks Jason for setting this up.

Here is a good beginning tutorial to help folks get started if you want to try a day-2-night conversion:

I guess I'll throw in on this one...a little intimidated by the competition though!

Just so you know, I've always been drawn to exaggerating the moon...I don't know why other than it just looks cool!Name: challengefinal.jpg

The hardest part for me was convincingly moving the light angle from the front to the back.

You'll also notice our flag-flying castle owners have dutifully taken Old Glory in for the night... though they're apparently not ready to give up on the Christmas season... heheh

I enjoyed this one!

Thanks Tim! Everyone I showed it to prior to posting said lose the Christmas lights, but I just couldn't resist...
My wife (Scout leader) pointed out that the US flag had to be taken in at night, unless it is lit with a spotlight. So I took it out. Upon closer examination, it does appear the actual building has multiple spots on both flags... Guess it's too late to re-submit. Great idea Serrator!

Awesome work guys so far!! I love all the different renditions and effects.
This buidling is a local business here where I live. I know the owner and he allowed me to go up into one of the spires a while back...what a great view!

Here is another small but great tut on lighting night scenes:

Serrator and Robert,

You can update your submission at any time prior to the start of voting, but only one submission per person.

Keep them coming, these are great so far!

Sadly, I didn't set the ISO on my camera high enough when I took this!
