Ps #28 - OOB Challenge- Voting ends July 7th - 06-06-2007, 08:27 PM

Challenge type: OOB Challenge (see Challenge Types)
Challenge Requirement(s):The contestant takes the picture of their choice and turns it into an Out Of Bounds image! (instructions link below). Popular vote wins!

Challenge Begins: June 6th
Voting Begins: June 30th
Voting Ends: July 7th
Submitters Notes: OOB Tutorial Site for an introduction to Out of Bounds Image making! HERE is another OOB technique as well.
Images: (none) Use the image in your portfolio that works best for this technique.

WINNER'S SPOILS
  • Wins the right to choose the next challenge type!
  • Gets to submit the challenge images!
  • Has the option to post their techniques after voting is closed!
  • Wins Texas-sized bragging rights!
  • Gets a Canon 1Ds Mark V! (all purchase funds provided by the winner)(Offer not valid after January 1st, 1986)
CHALLENGE TYPES
Here are the challenge types that the winner can pick from for the next contest (or make up your own):
  • Client Image Challenge: Change the original image to meet the clients needs or request. This can be as simple as changing the mood of a portrait, or making a full-blown press-ready ad image. This is what we do!
  • Image Combination Challenge: Combine between three and five images into one final image. Make them laugh, make them cry..it's up to you!
  • Logo Challenge: Create a business, product, or ad campaign logo from the element(s) provided. Smith's Photography...Uber-Clean Cleanser...anti-jaywalking campaigns...they all need a logo!
  • Day to Night Challenge: May a daytime image look like it was captured at night.
  • Digital Makeover Challenge: Turn the sample picture into a beaty...or a beast!
  • Out of Bounds Challenge: Create an Out of Bounds image using the best image in your portfolio.
Good luck everyone!

I think you can go to his website and download the tutorial for frames. I think that might get you the info you need, but not for certain. been a while since I played around with OOB's

brandi,

Here is my workflow on it using PS CS2.
-Goto your frame layer and select it's layer.
-Select outside the frame with the magic wand tool.
-Goto the select pulldown and invert, you should still see the marching ants.
-Now create a new layer.
-Grab your paint bucket and fill the inside of the marching ants rectangle with a gray color or whatever color you want your edge to be.
-You should now have a colored rectangle...deselect it...ctrl D.
-Reposition this new layer to below your main image in the layer pallet window.
-Now grab your move tool and slightly reposition the rectangle so that it creates the thickness you desire by moving it out from behind the main image.
-Lastly I fix up the corners as required by painting in the same edge color, you may or may not have to do this depending on how much you move your thickness layer out.

I think those are the main steps that I do to add thickness. Let me know if you get stuck or need clarification.

btw this will work for a warped frame as well as a rectangular frame as long as the frame is intact in the sense that you did not use the eraser tool on it and created an opening in the frame.

WOW! Serrator has my vote!

Of course, that is not to say that the others aren't any good, they are actually really good (I like KrazyKevins Yamaha "muddin' its way out of the frame), but, I can almost FEEL the power and speed of the train busting out of its frame. Powerful stuff!

Congratulations on your win KrazyKevin!

I will contact Kevin to determine the next challenge and have it up later in the week. Thanks again to all who submitted this time around. The OOB challenge was time consuming, but the entries were all great!
