Houston Zoo Photo Day

Saturday, February 20th from 7:00AM - 10:00AM (free roam until zoo closing at 6:00PM)

Registration is now available on line, so please sign up today at www.houstonzoo.org/photographyday

Event Schedule for February 20th Photo Day
7:00 a.m. Gates Open, check-in/registration and continental breakfast

7:00-8:00 a.m. Free roam photo access to Zoo grounds and all outside exhibits

8:00 - 8:30 a.m.Scheduled animal activity photo op at Orangutans and maybe Babirusa, or free roam

8:30 - 9:00 a.m.Scheduled animal activity photo op at Children’s Zoo - Ernie the Porcupine, or free roam

9:00-10:00 a.m. Photography presentation at BEC Auditorium featuring Steve Campbell, former Houston Chronicle photographer

Steve Campbell is an award winning photographer/photojournalist in the Houston area. Before starting his own freelance business, he worked as a staff photographer for the Houston Chronicle for 30 years and before that, for the San Antonio Express/News for 5 years. He has won numerous photo honors including awards from the Associated Press, United Press International, Texas Headliners, National Press Photographers, Pictures of the Year, and the Houston Press Club. He has covered a variety of assignments including the championship games on the professional, college, and high school level. He has also covered major stories such as the David Koresh Branch Davidian standoff in Waco, the Oklahoma City terrorist bombing, the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, and every U S president from Jimmy Carter to George W. Bush.

Steve will display a number of his photographs from his 35+ years as a newspaper photographer and will entertain the audience with the stories behind the photographs. Q&A Is welcome and encouraged.

Also of particular interest: our newly renovated Jaguar exhibit with invismesh fencing, 3 new 1½ year old female lion cubs and a brand new baby bongo born just last week.
