NAPP Convention - 06-10-2009, 04:11 PM

Have any of you guys attended the Photoshop World Conventions? There is one in Las Vegas in early October and I'm considering attending. However, if it is only for photoshop experts, then it would all be over my head.

I have been a NAPP member for a couple, or 3 years now. I am what you would consider intermediate level with Photoshop in that if I want to do something, I may not know the shortest way to it, but I can do it in PS on the photographic level. I have found the best method for my own style to address a photo, but that must mix with an understand, first of light, then of photography composition, then digital darkroom, of which PS isn't necessarily the majority factor.

That being said, I would likely enjoy going once to the PS World and see what all the hub bub is about.

I wish it were held in Houston one time so I would have to travel since I enjoy being home with my wife and child.

We'll see.

I've been to the the past couple of PSWorld conventions in Las Vegas. The Mandalay Bay is quite nice. Really good convention facilities. The classes are geared for many aspects of PS. I would imagine the classes will be focused on CS4. I believe there would be some brain work required to back fit some of the material to CS3. There may be some functionality that would not be backward compatible. When I went the first time, I had only hacked around in CS for a few month. I got lots of good knowledge from attending. I highly recommend attending if it is within your means. All told, it would be about $1500 for flight, room and convention fees. Ball park # of course as your eating, flying and drinking habits will most likely vary from mine. Lots of great lights to photograph. Check out the convention website and look at the class schedule to see if it would benefit you to go. Lots of different aspects of PS are covered by the different tracks.

I went a few years ago when it was at the Mandalay Bay. At that time I was a PS beginner. There were several tracks available and many were great for beginners. There are also photography and lighting classed as well. I took a pre conference workshop by David Ziser that was really good. Another thing about the conference is that it is a good place to go for inspiration. You get to meet all the "rock star" photoshop people. It was a fun trip. I have wanted to go the last couple years, but I spent my education funds elsewhere.
