Question Posting Images - 06-14-2009, 10:57 PM

Perhaps I didn't search hard enough....cuz I didn't find it. What are the best guidelines/recommendations for resizing images when preparing an image for attachment to a thread? So many times I read comments that an image looks soft or something else....maybe due to the resizing in preparation for web use.

A couple things. First make sure you convert to sRGB if you are in something else like AdobeRGB or ProPhoto. Next on dpi size, generally about 800 pixels wide is good for most monitor settings, where people won't have to scroll to see all the photo. The maximum storage size for TPF is 293k, so save it below that. I usually keep mine around 100k so that no one will steal them, and I also put a logo on. And on sharpening, generally when converting to a jpeg that would be the last thing you do, since how sharp to make a photo depends on the size. Small size photos generally can have more sharpening than larger ones, but that is all done with your eye. Just size it first, then sharpen.
