Trace a JEPG logo into a Vector Logo - 06-16-2009, 05:53 PM

For those graphically inclined folks if I have Adobe Illustrator can I take a jpeg logo and "trace" it to turn it into a vector logo?

If so is there a simple explanation of how to do this or a tutorial that you can point me to?

yeah, I do it all the time. Just use the pen tool to create paths. You can then select those and color them or do whatever you would like using the eye dropper tool.

Not sure how to explain the pen tool real well without showing you but I'm sure there are some good tutorials on it.

Okay I figured out something called "live trace" in AI which was pretty helpful for basic tracing. However, how do I take a basic trace and then add an outline to that image? I haven't been able to figure that out yet.

Got it figured out. Illustrator is pretty SWEET! Can't believe it's taken me so long to play around with this.

Lookslike oyu figured it out.. yes live trace is going to be the easiest way to do it.

make sure you play with settings as it will give best result. also it is soemtimes better when you do recreate the logo using the pen tool. Much better resutlsd that way.
