I've had it with companies like Adobe. I've been buying (NOT pirating) their products for over 12 years. I've spent tens of thousands of dollars (both personal and corporate) with them.
Now, I go to upgrade my Ps, and first, they treat me like a criminal by making me jump through hoops in order to buy the upgrade (spent 20 minutes on the phone with 'Sam' from India, who I'd venture to say knows less english than my 1 year old nephew, getting the upgrade to register), and now the software is crippled, so I have to RE-download a 1 GB file and reinstall the software.
Oh, yeah, did I mention that because I downloaded a "demo" before the upgrade, now I have to pay extra for a disc that I really don't want in the first place?
You know what, Adobe? I'm sick of your bloatware and greedy corporate BS.
Once upon a time, you made great software, and I was happy to support your efforts. I have enough people in the world punishing me for doing the right thing, I don't need to pay people to do it too. I hope everyone pirates your bloated software. You deserve it for treating your loyal customers like criminals.
I hate you Adobe. I hate you so much.
/END RANT.
<Forks over another $1000 to his corporate overlord>
Seriously, Adobe needs to fix their upgrading process.

Perhaps a good argument to support Open Source alternatives.

I hear ya brother! I too am tired of companies treating me like their product problems are not their issue especially when I can prove it. There is no accountability any more and customer service is way out the door. I don't even think companies today know what customer service is.
I am ready to start a web site that bans companies for poor customer service. Did anyone here about the employee from Randall's who got fired for giving chance to someone who stole a customers purse? It was apparently against company policy. Customer service is against company policy! I hope Randall's goes out of business and all the employees who provide good customer service find much better paying jobs than a company who treats their customers and employees poorly.

And so we pay them big money for thier software and a new camera comes out. Oh we will not write camera raw support for CS3 for your camera, you will need to upgrade to CS4. I don't know who to be more frustrated with, Adobe for their just give me more money attitude or in my case Canon for not doing something to help, or the industry for not arriving at some raw standard. I remember when a negative was a negative regardless of whose camera took it.

It's all about standards. Consumers want them, companies don't. The Open Source movement has gotten Microsoft's attention. Adobe would be wise to listen to their customers.

@Justin
I love your statement.
And you're totally right. I do not expect to be treated like a king. No one has to kiss my a$$ to keep me as a customer as long as procducts and services are good. I just do expect to be treated like an honest man. That's all.

Adobe is not my favorite company either. And it's horrible that I had to upgrade just because I bought a new (and better) camera. Nothing but a money-making gimmick. Just got new computer and can't wait to see the problems I have trying to get the software licenses switched.

I don't own any Adobe stock, and am nothing more than a customer, but I would challenge anyone to work with the huge files coming from top end DSLR cameras with PS 7. Or even CS or CS2. I have paid for every one of those versions and truly believe that there is a whole bunch more functionality in CS4 than even CS3 let alone going back a few more versions. My workflow is faster and far easier with the CS4. I personally have had Adobe do nice things for me, like cross upgrade once, and got a free upgrade when I bought CS2 a few weeks before CS3 was announced. Hardly the greedy corporate menace IMHO.
How would you feel if a large number of your customers simply hacked into your systems and printed as many images as they wanted? Would you make it a more secure process to make sure even the honest folks complied? That's all Adobe is doing here. Protecting their product.
Rant all you want, but make sure you consider the shoe on your foot too.
As always, YMMV.

The last software package I bought for my video work cost over $70,000... When you put things in perspective, there might not be a lot to complain about when you're only paying $1k.
Just sayin.... | | | |

I just went through the hoops too. Paid for a cross platform upgrade from PC CS3 to Mac CS4 and it was a pain. From the time my CC was charged to the time I received the software was 19 Days, It came in while I was on vacation so I had to spend $70 shipping it to myself at the hotel so I could get some time sensitive projects complete. I sent in the LOD (Letter Of Destruction) five minute after I paid via the Adobe website...called everyday and talked to the same "Sam" "Luis" "Mike" or what ever the computer told them to tell me there name was at the time and got the same answer "We have received your LOD, it has been passed on to sales and it will ship within 48 hours" 456 hours later I received my software.
And while I understand they have to use caution with their product because of piracy..the process took a RIDICULOUS amount of time..because I, like many others, PAY for the product and have since PS 4.0
So Justin, I feel your pain and agree. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
