Photoshop Elements 7 Instruction Book - 07-26-2009, 11:53 AM

I just recently purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 7. I see several tutorials listed here and am able to follow a few of them, but what I need is an instruction book that takes a true novice through the most widely used tools in Elements. Can any of you recommend an educational source (book / DVD, etc.) that is written for a true beginner in a logical and easy to understand style? Thanks.

Marty I bought the PSE7 for Windows Essential Training video from Lynda.COM. It is a really good video that takes you step by step through everything. I also have Scott Kelby's The photoshop elements 7 book. It is a pretty good book that is step by step for doing different things in PSE7.

Thanks Wesley. I'll check those out. I just found out about 10 minutes ago that they canceled the Photoshop Elements class I was going to take at a local college for lack of interest. They had a max of 10 places in the class and only 4 people signed up (including me). Drat.

I had an old version of Photoshop Album 2 for use in organizing my slides. My Hard drive died and was able to save my slides but not Album 2. Is Elements 7 a good program to use for organizing slides?

Doug

It does a pretty good job of organizing things. From what I have read Breeze Browzer does a really good job also.

I really appreciate the advice, everyone. Yeah, it was disappointing that the class was canceled, but with some good study resources I should be able to pick up the basics soon.

When I first got Elements 7 I bought Photoshop Elements 7: The Missing Manual. It was a really good book to get a beginner started and walked you through everything in a sensible manner. I did find however that about half way through the book, and once I was familiar with all the actions, I found it more useful to watch tutorial videos on-line. As with anything, the best way to learn is getting in there and playing with it. If I ever run into a situation where I don't know what to do, I often find a quick google search will turn up numerous videos showing me how to do it. The book is still usefull to have around as a quick reference guide though, especially since some of the videos are people using different verisons of PS, and sometimes Elements handles the same action a bit differently.

I HIGHLY recommend Kelby's books. I picked up his Elements 5 book and liked it so much I got his Lightroom book when I got LR. Excellent books--I compare them with cookbooks. He takes you through a process step-by-step in clear, easy to understand language (a must for me ).
