Infrared Photo Question - 07-27-2009, 03:18 PM

I havne't given this a shot (no pun intended), and I'm wondering what the deal is. Should I use an IR screw-on filter or do everything in post processing?

You may want to get rid of the IR filter built in your camera above the CMOS sensor. FYI it needs to be done by a professional.

You can shoot digital IR with just the filter (R72 Hoya) if you don't mind noise and really long exposures. You can have your digital camera modified to shoot IR, you still use a filter but exposures are much shorter. Both of those require quite a bit of PP to get a usable image.

Alternately you can shoot either B&W or Color IR film, using a filter (or not), and get great images without PP (although you will have developing). IR film, in my humble opinion, is the better way to go for stunning images, and the harder way to go to get them, if that makes sense.
