white pants turned blue - 08-08-2009, 02:30 PM

So I did some family portraits and used LR to develop them. I used the preset direct postive with a few other minor tweaks. For the most part I like the PP but it has turned Grandmas pants a tint of blue...

Suggestions for other PP ??

Did you shoot raw? Is it only the PP that did it? Have you tried changing the WB?

Just a reminder to set the white balance using neutral grey and not white if you do it auto in Lightroom. With the auto white balance tool click on something grey.

ok..now i"m frustrated!! the photos won't come back up in LR. I KNOW where the folder is..it seems to be fine in "library" setting, but when I switch to "develop" it says it is offline or missing. Once I pull these back in CS3 and edit them, they will still open back up in LR won't they? Gonna shut the computer down, and try again..

Yeah they look to orange now. Do you have photoshop and do you know how to make a mask so you are only changing the pants color and not the whole pic?

It would be some work to mask it out.

Hello there. I am a newbie and have read your question. I took the liberty to work on the picture and have come up with a solution but I don't know how to post it here. If you will send an email to me, I will reply with my rendition of your image.

Looks like too much cyan to me. The skin tone is unhealthy looking.

If you shot RAW, what I sometimes do, is lower the lumnosity (sp?) of the yellow, change the yellow hue to more green, and increase green saturation to get grass to really look healthy.
Sometimes when I mess with the saturations and such it will turn white into having blue shadows (such as wedding dresses and so on). I'm assuming it's due to either 1)UV Light, or 2)The blue sky casting a blue tint onto the clothing.
In that case I usually drop the blue saturation as long as there's no other critical blue areas in the photo and it takes care of it. Like others have said, you may want to mask it off.
Can you set masks in LR2?
