so I continue to work and get better using photoshop, but since I am self taught, I wonder what bad habits I have.... I'm know my workflow needs to be more consistent. Do you have a set workflow that you use each time? Also, after you work on lets say blemishes. Do you flatten the image and then move on to your next process? or do you keep adding layers/updated backgrounds? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have read a few of Scott Kelby's books but would love to hear what you have to say.

I never flatten. Takes up more space on the HD, but space is easy to get more of.

Once you flatten, you can't go back, unless you completely start over.

For portraits, I have many layers for basically whatever I'm doing. Color, skin cleanup, etc.

I have been following either Kelby's 7 Point system or the How to WOW Photoshop book by Jack Davis.
