Second Edition of THE BOOK on SHARPENING now out - 09-30-2009, 06:39 AM

"The Second Edition of Real World Image Sharpening with Adobe Photoshop, Camera Raw, and Lightroom has just been published . Originally written by the late Bruce Fraser, the book has been updated by Jeff Schewe. It remains of the few "must have" technical books for digital photographers...all digital photographers, whether you work with an iPhone or a medium-format digital back. You might not think you need a whole book on sharpening, but take my word for it—you do." - Mike Johnson

I'm 100% with Mike Johnson on this. This a book is a must have for anyone doing digital post processing.

Well, I guess I'll have to purchase another book on digital photography as sharpening is one of my biggest PP problems.
Thanks for the info.

After you read it you might want to check out: PhotoKit Sharpener by PixelGenius.

I'll vouch for this recommendation. I read the first edition and learned more about sharpening than I can probably remember. LOL The hows and whys, the ins and outs, etc. It's a great book!

Mike Johnson report from Jeff Schewe on differences in 1st and 2nd editions.

And there is new version of PhotoKit Sharpener in the works...

Hey Stovall,
I have Nik Pro Sharpener 2.0 and have never been satisfied with it. Perhaps, I'm not using it correctly. Regardless, I will purchase the book. Thanks again.

I'm not familiar with the Nik Pro Sharpener but have been very satisfied with the PhotoKit Sharper which is based on the multi-stage sharpening philosophy described by Fraser in the 1st edition. You do a capture sharpen and then a final one specifically for the output device.
