Camera RAW vs LR2.5 What changed? - 10-07-2009, 08:53 PM

I am using the trial version of LR2.5 and am puzzled. Now I admit that i kinda just start playing with this stuff and don't do much research prior.

Here's my problem. Before, when I would make corrections in Camera RAW and I would then open the photo in CS3 from RAW. I could make my edits, then save it file as a JPEG. Now, in LR, I can do every step the same but when I am ready to save as in CS3, JPEG is not an option.

Why not? Is it a workflow issue, or is this a feature of LR?

Thanks

If you want to save to a JPG, you would need to export after you're done with your edits.

Yeah, this is why I never could bring myself to drink the LR koolaid. The whole concept of your images being protected in an image database just bugs me.

I don't know much about the integration between LR and Photoshop, but I do know that the "Save As" dialog in Photoshop won't list JPEG as a choice if you're currently editing in 16-bit color since JPEG is an 8-bit format. So double check that. It could be that Camera RAW was configured to open the files in 8-bit mode so you never ran into this before.

In Lightroom "file" "export" will bring up the export dialog box with all its options. The exported files do not automatically round trip back to Lightroom.

Selected files export, so you can export one, some, or all the files in your catalog.

I may have misunderstood where you were actually making your edits. I thought you were making your edits in LR and are wanting to have the a JPG post edit. If this is the case, then, file export or right click export.

Jeff,

That was it. Switched it back to 8 bit mode and there it was. As for all the cataloging and such...no clue yet. I still have 28 days to figure it out. But, I do like it better than RAW for adjustments. Thanks!

FYI, for those who have access to kelbytraining.com, Matt Kloskowski has a new lesson up for Backing Up Lightroom.

EDIT: If you dont have it, you can still watch the first 3 sections of any of the lessons.
