Question The difference between... - 10-09-2009, 01:37 PM

Hi guys!

This may sounds like a retarded question (as I am new to photography), but I was wondering what exactly the difference is between hi-resolution images and low resolution images. I see some photographers emphasizing on their offer of hi-resolutions images...I do know high resolution is much better quality and will allow a client to re-size bigger than an 8X10, but other than that...how exactly do you get hi-res images? Does hi-res = RAW format? When finishing editing your images, do you save in RAW, and then provide your clients with the RAW images? (hope that made sense lol)

I do not have Photoshop. Perhaps hi-res and low-res images deals only with photoshop users? Not sure.

Which brings me to another question...
For one on a super tight budget (like myself), would one recommend purchasing Adobe Photoshop Elements? Or perhaps there is another program that I can start off with? Looking to fix blemishes, smooth out the skin, vignette...small editing adjustments overall. Not sure if all Photoshop programs offer this. (as you can see, I know not a darn thing about Photoshop. lol) Right now I am currently using Picasa 3.

Thanks for your help!!!
I greatly appreciate it! =)

1. Let me politely suggest this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hi-res ...and Google and Youtube can be your friend as well.

2. Just stay with Piccassa or try this: http://gimp.org/ It's free and very powerful.

I would rather teach you how to fish than to give you a fish. So instead of answering your question I will suggest, like Mark did above, how you can find answers for yourself here on TPF.

At the top of every page on TPF there are two ways to search this forum. One is to search ALL of TPF, the other will only search the portion where you are currently.
So go to the forum 'Post Processing'. You will see the 'search this forum' button, click it, enter your search terms and everything mentioned about your term will appear.

It will be a great resource for you and a great time saver for us. Ask when you can't find anything on your search, we will be happy to help.
