Help with Sharpening Techniques... - 10-22-2009, 09:43 AM

Hi, I need some help... I still struggle with sharpening my images... I have managed to learn a good sharpening technique for web presentations but for my full size images (10MP from 40D), I still struggle with them...

I have tried USM, Smart sharpening, creating edge masks and using sharpening on the Edges only but for one reason or another I am not satisfied with my results... I know sharpening is pretty subjective and it is for a specific output... so let us say I wanted to print in 8x10 or 16x20 size, I do not get good sharp photos prints from them...

Anyway, I wanted to know which techniques you use for sharpening your images for bigger size prints (bigger than 8x10)... Also, if you know of any good resources on the web where I can go learn.... Thanks!

Vibhav:

Can you post some examples? My first questions will be about what you're getting in camera before moving to software. Please post an example with EXIF data. Once I see it, I can make some recommendations.

Thanks for posting this thread! I too am interested in seeing what techniques are applied and used for these purposes also. I have my reduction, sharpening for web and copyright technique down and have applied it to an action that I run last after all other PP. But I know sizing and sharpening for print purposes is a whole new game and I want to grasp that concept as well.
