Tethered Event Photography - 11-07-2009, 02:52 PM

So when doing event photography with the mobile studio gear I tether the to the laptop...use Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 to bring it in...Capture NX to live batch a bit of tweeking...

...I grab from the designated folder and throw it in PS and use 2 actions...

Action 1: Add a layer with client's logo, a greeting, etc.

Action 2: Safe raw file, save high res logo'd file in seperate folder, then safe finished web res logo'd file in another seperate folder.

I can then dump the finished web res into an Outlook email to email the person(s) I just shot.

As they walk away it pops up on the email-enabled phones.

All in all it's fairly fast...from someone walking up to me, to them walking away with an email already in their phone is about 2 min...

...been doing it this way for years but would love to be able to change a few things that I might have missed.

In the first action where I paste the logo/greeting as a new layer it pops up in the middle and I position it. Am I missing the way to dump it into a certain corner?...like the bottom right?

....and more importantly/challenging, I'd love a way to integrate email into PS actions...to run an action that, after saving the web res image, to automatically dump it into a fresh email...(I use the signature option for a custom greeting to the participants)

It'd be nice to have an action either dump the low res into an mail in Outlook or to find/built a plug-in that would be a stand alone email software that integrates with PS.

....man if I can get these two issues solved it'd drop the start/finish time from 2 min to 1 min...

Not sure about the emailing... I know Lightroom allows you to email photos from the app, but I don't know about batch processing that. Plus, you'd have to change your entire process, really, over to LR.

There is a way to put your logo where you want it.. I used to have an action that did this, but of course I don't have it anymore. Let me play a bit and see if I can remember how I did it.

ETA: Found it! You need to use the 'align' tool. Select the logo layer and the background layer, then go to Layer | Align | Select the appropriate choice for where you want it. Add that to the end of your action.

SWEET!...thanks Amy! I added the align parameters and it rocks! Thanks!

I've had Lightroom for quite awhile but really haven't dug into it...will look closer!

Tre, i use the place command in PS to place my logo, i record the insert and the move to the corner in the action. you position the logo before the place command is finished.

I'm not advicating for either bit of software, but this could all be done with default presets (including the teathering to bring the created images in to a project) via Apeture. Teathering to emailing web ready watermarked photos. And it plays very nice with all adobe products. Though it has crap suport for dng which I would prefer.

Right on Brandon...I dig the specs of Aperture but I'm a PC guy. I've thought of switching but it'd be expensive...multiple computers and all the software....ugh.
