PS CS4 help - 11-25-2009, 09:25 PM

Ok, just starting to use CS4 on my desktop while still using CS3 on my laptop until I learn everything. Some features I like, others I think they have made more difficult. 1 simple question for you gurus... how the heck to I resize an image that I have on a separate layer from the main design? For the life of me I can't figure it out on CS4. Very easy on CS3 (click, shift or ctrl and drag to increase or decrease size)... what happened? What am I missing?

Thanks!

I find it easiest to use the free transform tool. press Ctrl+T. The move tool can also be used to some degree. Depending on what you are resizing, you should make it a smart object first. That keeps it from losing resolution if you have to resize it up after you've resized it down. Use shift or ctrl to constrain aspect ratio, I don't remember which at the moment.

Ken is right. Control+T to free transform and then shift to constrain the proportions. You can also hold down the shift + alt (option on a mac) while dragging from one of the corners to keep the image/layer centered (the anchor is usually the center of that object so it will stay "anchored" to that original center).

Give it a try and let us know.

Thanks guys! It worked fine. I knew it would be simple. I'm not sure why the took away some of the features in CS3. Before you could just click on the image and the free transform tool would be there.

Thanks again!

When you click on the move tool, do you have the box for "Auto-Select" checked and the box for "Show Transform Controls" checked? That might make CS4 do what your CS3 did?
