CS4 or Elements 8? - 11-25-2009, 10:49 PM

I'm a college student, so I can get Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended Student Version at 80% off its list price. I'm wondering if I want to do that, though. I'm using Elements 5, which is OK, but I need better mosaic tools and I would like better control over my editing process. I don't know that I need the extra complication of CS4.

Now is the time to decide. I may not be a student much longer, and the reduced prices are good only until November 30. What do you think would better suit my needs?

If I could get CS4 for 80% off, I definitely would! The main reason I want it is for soft-proofing, but I'm sure some other stuff I like to do would be easier with it, too. That said, I don't know if it's better suited to your needs. It's a good deal, though.

I'm with Suzy -- if I could buy CS4 for 80% off, I'd do it in a heartbeat. The thing about CS4 is you can grow into it. Sooner or later you're gonna hit limitations with E8. Plus, you may as well get used to the industry standard, especially since you have the opportunity to buy a copy for such a great price.

CS4, cuz once you get it you can keep upgrading to the newest version for minimal amounts of money, compared to when you're not a student anymore and need a full version. I've been upgrading continually since Photoshop 3, and it's usually only around $100 or so an upgrade.
