Lightbulb Baby Anouncement CC - 01-04-2010, 12:38 AM

So my wife is do three weeks from today and I am trying to be proactive and get the announcement ready so I can just place the right picture(s) in when the time comes. I tend to get tunnel vision, so i wanted to see what y'all had to say about the announcement. I had planned to get this printed on a 5x7, or possibly a bi-fold 5x7 postcard and I would add some similar things to the inside pages.

Any suggestions to improve this design? It is not 100% complete yet, but I was trying not to make it look TOO busy. Also, I am still learning to use Photoshop, so this was my first attempt at using textures and groups for the letters.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Love that you're designing your own! That said - it looks a bit clunky and I think the multi- and bold- colors might be a bit much, especially once you add a photo in there. But I think a lot of that is just my taste. It's certainly better than I could do!

Hey Justin,

Check out this person's ebay store. If only for ideas and inspiration, it's worth a look.

Cool. Perhaps explore making the blocks multiple colors not the wording. i.e. "Bs" all the same color, All "2s" another color and so on. Just like real blocks.

Zoe,
Thanks for your opinion, I guess I should add a photo to see how I want this thing to turn out.

Sonny,
Thanks for the links, looking at that site makes me realize how I really am an Engineer - i.e. not creative... drawing straight lines lol. That's some good inspiration that hopefully I can learn from!

Mark,
Thanks for the tip about making the blocks different colors, that's a great idea!

I like it. Are you planning for a color or b/w image? If it is going to be b/w, I might reduce the overall saturation a bit to mellow it out so there is not so much of a contrast between the b/w image and the bright colors. Did you make the blocks yourself or did you get them somewhere?

I made the blocks myself, and I have not decided yet whether the images will be b/w or not?!? I think I may have to wait and see what kind of pictures I end up with, but thanks for the tip if I go the b/w route!
