Question CS4 Crashing - FONTS OVERLOAD? - 01-13-2010, 11:12 AM

I've got about 2500 fonts on my system - I have font issues - yes, I know.

My pc has 8 GB of Memory - so with word, etc - there are no issues having that many fonts.

HOWEVER - with photoshop - when I hit the Text Tool - I get the 'thinking' circle.... that goes on and on and on and on....

Until it says: Photoshop is not responding, wait or end program.

I've let it go and go and go... and nada.

Does anyone have a better way to setup fonts in order to avoid this issue? Or a work around so that I can use my fonts?

You need a font management program so that not all the fonts are active all the time. I use Extensis Suitcase and it works quite well, especially if you take the time to categorize the fonts so it's easier to find what you want. Essentially it lets you activate and deactivate fonts that are on your system so programs (particularly anything Adobe) are NOT having to load in ALL 2500 fonts (which you can see it doing during start-up), just the ones you want to use.

Yes Fonts will kill PS especially if one is corrupt. It also slows it down.

Best solution there is right there...

Font management that works great.... Font Lister. I've been using it for years...

I'm currently using it on W7. works fine.. no issues!

Okay Melissa & Mariano - I tried SF2 - and after MULTIPLE attempts to install it, with multiple attempts to fix it - I gave up. It's a PITA... client would crash, etc etc... Win 7 and it aren't best buddies at ALL

I was going to suggest turning off the preview, like Doug linked above. It's in the preferences section.

My husband found me a free software call Font View. I love it.
but you'll have to uninstall all your 2500 off PS then put them in a folder,
and use Font View to see which ones you'd like to use, and it will let
you install in Font View while you're at it.
it took me a while to uninstall all but it does save me a lot of time
looking at the "thinking" circle!! hope this will help!!
