Topaz Plug Ins - 01-29-2010, 10:19 AM

Anyone else here using the Topaz family of plug ins?

I did a quick search and didn't see any recent posts about this relatively inexpensive plug in that I've been using a lot lately.

This is a sample of what it can do. This is the John Moulton Barn in Grand Teton National Park enhanced with some Topaz Adjust.

I use Topaz Adjust often on many of my images. On a few occasions I've used Topaz Simplify.

Sonny....

I've also used Simplify and Detail - depending on the subject, lightning, etc.

I'm a big fan because the software does a fine job of bringing out the nuances of color and light that you often can't normally get in one frame.

I also use Topaz tools quite a bit.. Adjust, Simplify... I even like the DeNoise plugin.

This one was heavily manipulated with a combination of all three...

I use the Topaz Detail the most. It takes much longer to load up an image but it does a MUCH nicer job than Topaz Adjust. I use both of them but Detail about 90% of the time due to its higher quality and it's ability to do a great job without adding a lot of noise and artifacts.

The one thing that I don't like about the software, which is obvious in this photo, are the halos it creates.

Wil: Its on 377 near Stephenville

Sonny: Alot of the halos here are because it was so heavily manipulated.. and I also had a bunch of layers working. Liked the effect at the time, so I kept them... if I did it again, probably wouldn't as much. LOL

You can manipulate the photos with Topaz in a way to avoid the halos, but it takes practice.

Topaz Plug Ins - 02-03-2010, 08:01 PM

Topaz Detail Version 2 is out. If you already have the original version, the upgrade is free. You can use your old Key number on the new version.

I use Topaz as well - 04-08-2010, 06:25 PM

I've included a sample of how I use Topaz. IFor this Whimbrel I used Topaz Adjust, (small detail preset) followed by Topaz Clean 2. Redfield Fractalius is also quite useful, but most of these plug-ins need to be throttled back or the effect takes over.

I have many bird images that have been so altered at my website in progress. regards~onlybill
