Creating Album Templates in Photoshop? - 03-23-2010, 03:26 PM

I am feeling creative bug going - but am not entirely sure how to do this so that I can make it a drag n' drop type template.
I have the basic awareness of layers and such - any simple way of explaining - or way to direct me to tutorial for creating things like this?
Im dying for something to do after having a ton of cosmetic surgery done and being stuck on my butt for 2 weeks!

I think it would depend somewhat on the version of PS you have. In CS3, you can go to file, automate, picture package and so some set-up there.

InDesign is actually made for designing albums. That's what my wife uses (she does all our design.)

Do a few searches and it isn't hard to find templates for Indesign.

I think Ps will be your best bet for cvreating tremplates and new designs. Once you have that made then you can import those designs and photos to InDesign and create the layouts you like.

Indesign is more for creating pages such as building books magazine that type of thing. But if you are looking into being creative and making templates then start with photoshop.

Actually - this seems to be the perfect time to figure out what all thse programs are. I have the Master Collection for CS3 and have only really played with Photoshop - never really messed with Fireworks or InDesign though I do have them.

Do you know of any good tutorial sites for these things?

Thank you both for your ideas/responses!

Yervant's Page Gallery is AWESOME!!!
One of (if not The Best) Wedding Photographers in the Business.
He created and designed this software himself.
I've used several other popular Album and Template Apps and none can compare to this one.
You'll wonder how you ever got by.....

You can view a tutorial as well and download a trial here.....

Here you go...probably shouldn't "give" it away...but it's not the latest and greatest, and you might find some problems with it, but this will give you the general idea.

This is basically what I used to layout my wedding album...

I use Layers Magazine for some quick tuts ... Adobe Creative Suite Tutorials, Reviews and Resources for Photographers, Designers, Illustrators and Developers | Layers Magazine

Fireworks is really a web version of Photoshop ... there isn't anything really that you can do in Fireworks that isn't able to be done in Photoshop. I feel it is easier in Photoshop. Fireworks really just creates projects fitting into the web world. Creates slices for you, making seamless integration into Flash and Dreamweaver, etc.
