Help with Bridge - 04-09-2010, 10:10 AM

I have a new computer[Windows 7] and have installed CS3.This morning I did my first downloads from a compact flash, which contained both jpeg and raw images. The jpeg thumbnails opened fine in Bridge, but the raw images[Nikon nef] showed only the "NEF" symbol and would not open in photoshop. Message read that 'it was not the right kind of document" to open in Photoshop. Are you kidding me?
Any suggestions? I have searched my several CS3 books and have found nothing of assistance.
Your assistance is much appreciated.

Bill - what version of Adobe Camera Raw do you have? It probably needs an update. I have CS3 as well and have version 4.6.030 of Camera Raw. You may have to search around on Adobe's site to find this (older) version.

Hope that helps.

That is my guess too. Update the Adobe Camera Raw converter.

If that doesn't help get ready to make the jump to CS5 next week.

Thanks guys. You nailed it. My old CS3 was not updated to handle the D3.
Regardless, I may have to take a serious look at CS5.
I have messed up someway in downloading the ACR because while the images now download in photoshop, they don't in Bridge. I'm sure that this is my error and I should be able to run this down and correct.
Thanks again for your assistance.

OK, guys. I'm still unable to open raw[NEF] images in Bridge. I get only the generic symbols for "nef". I have gone everywhere and spent several hours trying to correct this, but to no avail.
Any ideas?

Seems like I read somewhere you need to update PS and Bridge when you go to the new OS WIN7. I think I read it on Adobe's site but can't be sure. Have you tried to see if there is an update for CS3?

Which version of Camera RAW do you have installed with your CS3? I believe CS3 supports only Camera RAW versions up to 4.6XX. Newer versions won't work.

This is likely.
I got my 7D and had to upgrade to CS4 in order to install ACR for it.

I had the same issue, I had to download the Adobe DNG Converter. It converts your RAW files into DNG files and you are good to go.

After numerous uninstall's and reinstall's, I have surrendered and downloaded Adobe DGN Converter as Dan suggested. It works, but the files are very large and I consider this a temporary solution. I'm guessing that CS5 is in my near future.
