Batch TIF to JPG conversion? - 04-21-2010, 09:07 AM

I have a few hundred scans that were given to me in TIF format, but I want JPG tp upload to SmugMug. Are there any good ways to batch them all? Does Lightroom V2 do it, or Elements 8?

Adobe Bridge can handle this without any hickups if you have it and photoshop.

After importing to LR....Lightroom can do it too but I don't think they call it batch conversion. Select all your TIFF's (you can make a smart collection to make this easier if they are in different locations/folders on your hard drive) Then right click and hit "export"...a pop up menu will appear and you choose your settings and destination accordingly. This should work pretty quickly.

Let us know if you run into any bumps along the way...

If you have to do this several times (for whatever reason) after you do the initial export then next time you can just click "export with previous" without having to do all the settings again. You can also add this setting to your user presets over on the left...

Thanks. Right now I have DxO, Elements 8, and I have LR V2 but I hadn't installed it. My plan is to rescan all the photos eventually, but since I do not yet have the albums, I figured I'd share the ones my family member did with the rest of the family for now.

LR can do it and with a plug-in, can directly export to SmugMug.

DxO was able to do the conversion, batch sytle. I did run across one TIF that DxO couldn't convert, and even Elements would not give me the option to make it a JPG, so I made it a GIF.

LR should be able to handle it. Import then export to whatever format you want.

When this happens to me in Photoshop CS4 I will check to see if it is bigger than 8 bit....going from 16 to 8 bit will usually solve this problem and allow you to save in jpg format.

I'll have to try that! Didn't even think to look.
