I know, silly question but???? - 04-28-2010, 02:11 PM

Imported a gazillion or so photos into LR2 on C drive. Had a scare last week and thought I had lost it all due to my negligence? Any how have bought a new super size internal aux drive for storage. Transfering everything to it in raw original form using LR export. Once done I will still have the same original files in LR on C drive and when I remove from LR and delete from C drive it will ask me am I sure I want to delete original file. Scary thought. Have I infact made an new original file on new drive and its OK to delete these old ones on Cdrive. Thanks

Trey,
Right click both folders and make sure they are the same size and have the same amount of files.

Did you copy the whole C: drive or just the lightroom folder?

As usual I think I am over complicting things. Felt as though I had to use LR for this since pics were in LR. Am now just going into windows and copin folder from C to E drive. LR apparently adds its tag of info to to each file I'm guessing increasing its size massively. I am sure folks who read this will get a chuckle but I,ve been sweatin this for some time now. Kinda like makin copies of a negative fom film days kinda thing with quality drop!

Trey,

I am like you. I am always very careful when deleting files. That is why I don't delete unless I have two more exact copies in two different places. If I wanted to delete them off my C drive, I would make sure they are on my E drive AND one other place; either another hard drive, DVD or CD.

Do you know what folder your lightroom files are in? If so I would do what Michael said and just do a straight copy to a new drive as a 2nd backup. Fry's has 320 gig portable drives for $54 in yesterdays paper. Once you have your backup then copy from your C: again to the new drive, then point Lightroom to the new drive and location. Double check before deleting.
