CS5 - Content Aware Cloning - 06-12-2010, 04:25 PM

I recently upgraded my Photoshop to CS5. Today I spent some time playing/learning the new cloning tool. I am liking it (there is a slight learning curve - for me). Here is an example of the tool. I would not have been as successful with the removal of the lower cable with the older version of the tool.

I still haven't played with content-aware fill/cloning. After seeing your picture I'm going to find some time to play with it!

I downloaded and installed CS5 Sunday, just minutes before my son said his stomach was hurting more than it had been. Long story short, emergency appendectomy and we got home last night.

I hope to play with it soon. (CS5 that is.) I hope to take a photo where I recently did cloning and use this to compare. This fill is also excellent to fill in some panos instead of cropping to size, based on the demos I saw.

Looking to play with it and for any tips y'all have on moving settings, brushes, plug-ins over. I use NIK and Topaz - do I need to reinstall those or is there a way to point CS5 to them? (If I'm hi-jacking the thread, sorry, I can repost if needed.)

Sorry to hear about your son, Andy -- hope he is doing well now.

As far as the plug-ins go: for NIK, they do not have a 64-bit version yet (go figure - their web page the 64-bit version will be ready by mid year; right about now), so to use it you have to use the 32-bit version of CS5. Topaz has the 64-bit versions. I suggest that you re-install the plug-ins -- especially for the 64-bit versions. You can try to just copy the appropriate plug-in folder from the previous version of CS to the Cs5 plug-in folder for the 32-bit versions (I doubt that copying the folder method will work for the 64-bit versions).

With the new clone tool, you can take a picture of your son's surgery scar and then make it disappear -- easier and faster that what nature can do.
