LR3 Settings Q! - 06-18-2010, 08:51 AM

Had a quick question, in LR2 when I edit a photo in CS4 (command+E, through the edit external window), I edit a copy with LR adjustments, and save as a copy. Upon re-entering into LR2 from CS4 (when its saved), the copy receives the same color/star settings as the original. But, in LR3 I can't get this to work? Is there a settings or little tick box I'm missing?

I did notice the same issue last night. That's quite a pain and I haven't figured that out either. I hope it's a bug... and they have a fix for it soon.

Glad to know I'm not insane, back to LR2 for now. The noise reduction stuff is nice though.

Grrrr! The only settings it will retain are Flags and keywords.

Well, this sucks. Especially for "official release." Thanks for the extra step Sonny!

According to a few people over at the Lightroom Forums it is a know bug. They recommend this is the workaround for now:

"In the mean, press CTRL+S to save your Metadata to a XMP sidecar file before editing in PS."

I'm importing some photos at the moment. After the import is completed I test it out and report back.

My results of the workaround:

The workaround only applies to the original RAW file. I selected one RAW file and applied the following:
  • a Flag (keyboard shortcut - P)
  • color label green (keyboard shortcut - 8)
  • Star Rating of 1 (keyboard shortcut - 1)

With that RAW file still selected I pressed Ctrl+S. Next, I right-clicked on the RAW file and chose Edit In > Photoshop CS5. Inside of Photoshop, I made a couple of adjustments. Finally, I saved the PSD and it automatically brings the PSD into LR. The PSD retained the Flag and Star Rating of 1, but not the Color Cabel of Green. This workaround does not apply to Virtual Copies. The Virtual Copies did not save an XMP file.

Thanks sonny! I'm still going to stick to LR2 until they update/fix... but for stuff I won't PS... the noise reduction and lens correction is pretty sweet!
