What do you use? - 06-18-2010, 10:18 PM

Hey everyone!

I was just curious as to what programs everyone uses to edit their photos? Me personally, I use Photoshop and Picasa. I find Picasa to be fun and easy; Photoshop can be challenging at times. I've heard of PS Elements, and was looking into that one but I'd like to know more about some of the other programs out there from people who actually use them.

THANKS!

If you have photoshop, you have no need for Photoshop Elements. It is a version of PS with less tools.

I use:
Photomechanic - sorting, captioning, deleting, tagging
Lightroom - colors, sharpening, converting to tiff or jpeg
Photoshop - intensive editing

Yeah, I've heard of Lightroom before. I believe someone else has told me about it on TPF.

I don't know a lot about PS Elements, my friend showed it to me and some things she did seemed so much easier than the traditional PS 7 (or less steps)..

Thanks Thomas!

I use Elements 8 and it does a ton. Any even though some say it's a watered down version of PS, it does a ton of stuff and still can be confusing. Get a few good books and look at online tutorials for tips.

My digital darkroom consists of:

Photo Mechanic - cataloging, browsing, importing
Capture One - RAW converter
Photoshop CS4 with these plug-ins
Portraiture - skin smoothing
Nik Color Efex - many finishing effects
Nik Pro Sharpener - sharpening
Alien Skin Exposure - B&W conversion & film emulation

Since my output is typically only two or three images per set, I don't fancy Lightroom or other batch processors. If you shoot higher volumes such as weddings, seniors, or sports, then that tool is highly recommended.

Photoshop CS5. If you already have Photoshop, I see no need in acquiring Elements, although it's a great product for the price.

CS4 - Bridge, Camera RAW and Photoshop

I so want to upgrade to CS5, but haven't even had CS4 that long. Can't justify the cost.

Go nuts!

DigiKam and GIMP are pretty powerful and free. ArtRage, though not really photography related, is quite cool.

Same here.
On occasion I'll use PS for a thing or two.

Lightroom and Photoshop. You may also consider Noise Ninja for removing noise. However, I hear the noise removal tool in the latest version of Lightroom is just as good as noise ninja. I am hoping to upgrade soon and find out.
