Cool Lightroom Tip......Double Gradient Filters - 10-14-2010, 08:40 AM

I know this is probably old news to most of you, but it's new news to me.
I've been struggling with a sunset photo from my recent trip to North Carolina. How to get decent color and detail in the sky and open up the foreground trees so they don't look like a grey-green blob? Thanks to a tip from a member of the Nikon Cafe (yes, they allow Canon owners over there), I found the answer last night.
Two gradient filters. One gradient from the top down to burn in the sky and a second gradient from the bottom up to dodge the foreground. It works for this photo and I'm finally close to a printable solution.

Someday when I grow up I'll get some of those. In the meantime, I'm in full on salvage mode after my first ever "I have no idea what I'm doing with a digital camera" major sunset shoot.
