PS: Shadows + Folders + Masks! - 12-09-2010, 11:18 PM

I have a number of Christmas Cards I've put together and some of them I really like to use a a "template" but it still takes a long time per card.

I have to many masks, nested folders and the like, but I can't apply layer effects to folders. Any ideas on how to apply shadows, glows and other blend options to folders or "place holders"?

I hope that makes sense.

Sorry... I think I figured it out. :-), I guess after saying (typing) it I said something that gave me an idea. "Place".

Although I use "place" in just about every InDesign I've never tried it for PS. Who know it actually works. Just a little different, for example it seems if you duplicate a shape already there the new shape is linked to the old one. Which means when you change the photo to a new one it will change both files.

Because it's different from InDesign I think it's not going to feel as comfortable but I'll get used to it.

Finally if you want to see the PSD file let me know I'll email it over.

Covert to smart objects or make a clipping mask.

Clipping mask didn't work when I attempted that method. Unless I was doing something wrong, I think the problem was blending options didn't apply to the clipping mask.

I haven't playing with the smart objects yet. I will look into that though.

Yup, you just saved me a bunch of time! Convert to smart objects is the ticket.
