PS Workflow - resizing, saving, sharpening, etc. - 12-28-2010, 03:04 PM

Hi,

I'm sure this has been covered but a quick search didn't find it...so...I'm a pretty new PS user and I'm learning the basics pretty well. My question is about resizing and saving files in PS. Like most people (I'm sure), I'm needing to save low-res versions for web and high-res versions for printing. What's the best way to do this? I've wondered about creating a separate PSD file for both the high-res and low-res versions, but then I have to do the extra step of importing the re-created version into Lightroom. (I do all my file organizing in Lightroom and usually export the finished high-res file from Lightroom for printing, so i always want my final files in Lightroom.) Or would it be better to create an action that would, all at once, appropriately sharpen the file for web, resize, save in its correct folder, then resize back to the original, sharpen for printing, and export to the appropriate folder? This would eliminate the need to export it twice out of Lightroom. I'd just hate to export what I think is a high-res image for printing, only later to discover that I had changed the image size for web use! Thanks in advance for your wisdom...

I don't use LR at all, but I can't imagine the saving/resizing being that different. I save 1 PSD file when I am finished, no resizing. Then from there, if I need a hi rez or lo rez it's easy. I flatten the image, resize if necessary, convert to sRGB, then save as jpg and adjust image quality if needed. I have no idea if this is the correct way to do it, I am self taught, it makes sense to me though.
