Photoshop didn't JUST corner the market, they did that a long time ago!

But seriously, if PSP does what you need, then be happy. Personally, I'm a Photoshop kinda guy - no pretenders are welcome... :)

Well i was just wondering. all these posts out there that talk about any type of post processing, deal with PS. And it leaves me thinking..."What am I missing?" I've used PSE 6 in the past, and found its workflow to be to space consuming. Were as PSP saves the original in a folder so as to not lose it. I can do everything, on PSP that I could no PSE 6, even though my knowledge of both prevents me from doing half of what either programs allow.

My daughter and I have been using Corel for several years. PSP PX2 for the past couple of years. We have been very happy with it. I can't justify spending several hundred extra dollars for a few bells and whistles that I may never use.
Corel does way more than I would ever want to use to make a "photograph". I hope that I don't ever fall in the trap of "that's OK, I can correct it with..."
I am constantly amazed at the attitude that people take when in conversation about post-processing, you mention, "well, I use Corel, and their name for that function is... ". It often ends the conversation as the "Photo-Shop Pro" feels that they are too good to associate themselves with such an obvious amateur.
BEFORE YOU CUT LOOSE ON ME WITH SCATHING HATE MAIL AND BOMB THREATS, let me say that, NOT EVERYONE who uses PS is that way. But it is very surprising how many people are.
I don't intend to offend anyone here. And I surely don't have anything against Photoshop or anyone who uses it. But for me, PSP is plenty good. When anyone says to me in conversation, "oh that's easily fixed in Photoshop", I just keep my mouth shut, and think to myself, "if you get it right with the camera, you won't have to fix it at all"
Just my opinion and nothing else :^}

here here. my point exactly. What people dont know or dont realize is that Corel has been the leading photoprocessing softwear out there. I feel that the only reason that PS got a jump on them is just marketing. Those who know, use Corel, the sheep use PS.

In that case, I've been a very happy sheep from PS 6 through CS4. Tight integration with AE and, with Dynamic Link, the rest of the CS4 Production bundle makes my life so much easier.

I've been using PSP for several versions now and really like it.
Threads about Photoshop invariably end up talking about actions or plugins that do the work or you, and that puts me off. The learning curve for Photoshop also is long, and a number of people have agreed with me in the past about that.
PSP enhances photos as I want without my having to spend alot of time doing the work or learning the software. I don't really care if I am not riding the Adobe bandwagon, and don't think that popularity makes Photoshop better software. See Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer as examples. If you haven't used another software, you can't say it is better, but at 4x the price of Paintshop, it should be alot better. I doubt that it is.

Good for you, and I entered this thread thinking it was about a civil difference of opinion.

I use PSP XII and am a happy user. I will say the one draw back for "me" is the lack of a skin smoothing plugin like Portraiture. Although PSP XII does have a "skin smoothing" tool in it, I havent found it to be all that great. Of course I could be using it wrong :)

Well I have PSP XIII and it also have skin smoothing, and I have found it to be great. Again, not sure if its a difference in how its used, or the newer software. I did some homecoming shots of the coronation, and the cheerleaders for the middle school paper/yearbook, so they were not portraits per-say, but I loved the outcome.

Clint, how about posting one of the examples? I have mine set to 60% strength, and normally zoom in to 120% to get a semi decent look wehn I run it.

I am purely an amateur and these are no where portraits, they were great for what they were intended for...black and white yearbook photos. This is the only one that I really did some playing around with. understand that I have one photo shoot north of zero experience of shooting people. I'm mainly an outdoor wildlife, nature, landscape photographer. But trying to branch out.
