Book Function - Apple Apeture 3 - 01-08-2011, 02:09 PM

I am beyond hope to ever be considered a poor excuse of an amateur picture taker. I like to think of myself as an avid enthusiast that strives to be better tomorrow than today. I have learned much from you all here at TPF and thought that I would try and give something back. So I want to share a review with you all on a function that I just found in Apple Aperture 3.

It is their Book building function. How cool is this?!?!....

Super easy to use, I wish power point or keynote were this easy... And if you use either of those programs, you know those are anything but difficult, and thats my point!

Simply go to the menu and select book.

You will get some theme choices to select from, Hard Cover vs. Soft Cover. Xtra-Large all the way to Very Small

I ended up choosing "Medium" and the "Snapshot" theme.

After that.... you drag and drop photos from collections (called projects in Aperture but I am used to lightrooms vernacular), into the "Book". The photos are viewable in a window/film strip at the bottom of the screen. Then you just drag the photo on to the template place holder in the window above the film strip. To create your book.

Then fill in the text fields, add some more text fields if you want to.... Viola!

Here are screen shots of my final draft ... that I swear took longer to define which pictures I wanted to use than it did to create the book. In a few days I will have the book in my hands and I will be able to tell you what I think about the quality.

Thanks for looking, your comments are appreciated.

Later,
Duke

I have the Aperature 3 textbook. I don't have a mac, I needed it for a college course where we learned Aperature 3. If you want it, I'd be willing to sell it to you. PM me if you like.

No thank you, I am not interested in your text book, but I appreciate the offer to sell it to me.

What do you think of my review and first attempt at a photo book?

Its actually really good. I saw that you could do that, and I wish we covered it, but we really only used Aperature 3 for color corrections.

But, your photo book is pretty cool, its laid out really well. Will Aperature 3 let you print like that so you could basically print your own coffee table books? If it does, thats just another thing CS5 doesnt do, but there are things it does A3 doesnt. I like it keep up the good work!

OH, also the walkthrough, AMAZING!! If i had a MAC, I would so be doing this!! Wonderful job on the write up as well!!
