Fun with Out of Bounds (OOB) - 01-20-2011, 09:21 PM

Full disclosure: I have Photoshop CS 5 but I often use Photoshop Elements instead for a quick - or fun - edit.

This "out of bounds" image was done with the new guided edit in Photoshop Elements 9.0

Highly recommended if you're looking to create some different effects with your family photos.

Your thoughts always appreciated...

By the way, here's a quick free video tutorial online (from Adobe TV) that shows you how to do this in a series of simple steps:

i think it would add more depth to it if he was actually in the picture, covered up by the black border, but with her head out like it is. as it is, it looks like he's throwing her in front of a picture

agreed, and some forced perspective (tilt the picture back) would make it even better.

Makes sense - thanks for the feedback. Here's another attempt with a slight revision on your recommendation.

but now it still doesnt really look like an OOB. It will really help to if you narrow the frame at the top relative to the bottom. Makes it look more like the picture is laying down and the OOB subject looks like they are coming more out of the picture.

Once again, many thanks for helping me out. I've tried to incorporate your ideas in this version:
