Color shift when uploading? - 02-02-2011, 08:16 PM

All of a sudden I'm getting a sever color shift when uploading my jpgs to flickr or smugmug. The color profile is srgb, but when they upload they become over saturated and have too much contrast.

Any idea why they look one way in Photoshop, Capture 1 Pro and even the preview on my desktop, but then totally different online?

Ok, I think it has something to do with my new wide gamut NEC monitor and the calibrated profile. If i export the file with the NEC calibrated profile instead of srgb, then it looks fine in my web browser. But now how do I know how it will look for someone else??? If it looks good on my screen will it look like poo for someone else? Or do i need to put up with it looking like poo on my end but it will look good for everyone else? I'm so confused.

More experimenting seems to show that what LOOKS wrong on my monitor when viewing my pics on the web (srgb profile), is actually correct when viewed on a different uncalibrated system. So I need to go by what my calibration supportive apps show (which makes sense) but meanwhile i have to deal with my pics looking all crazy on the interwebs. This is weird.

Anyone?
