How many of you use a tablet for editing? By tablet, I mean one of those with a tablet and pen attached to your computer and using the pen instead of a mouse. Controlling a mouse can be difficult at times to get detailed. If you do use a tablet, which one and why? | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. I use one if I need to be highly accurate in my editing. But not for general use.

I've actually started using a little bamboo tablet and actually like it, I prefer using it about 70% of the time. I still keep my mouse next to it for fast scrolling, but my wrist is less fatigued in the long run using the tablet, it can get pretty worn out using the squatty little magic mouse.

I should be using my Wacom Intuos. My main reason would be to avoid the carpal tunnel issues I have. Second, it's great for detailed work.

I always use my Wacom Intuos 4 with a pen, it gives me the control and accuracy that I just don't get from a mouse.

I have the large one ( having had smaller versions before ) and I think it's actually slightly too large, I would recommend the medium size.

I have the wacom graphire 4 6"x8" and I use it as my everyday mouse
When I do editing, I switch to the pen
With the pen, you get finer control, much more natural curves and tracing ability and the ability to use 'pressure sensitive' mode for airbrushing, painting
The pen is really great for cloning and using the healing brush
Small investment with lots of benefits - not a big learning curve but you have to make sure you have your photoshop settings correct to utilize the pen

One other thing to consider is the pen size, I have the 'default' pens that come with the tablets and one of the thinner version, personally I prefer the thinner version ( I have one for my older Intuos 2 that sadly now sits in a draw ) as it feels more natural.

After you've used a Wacom, a mouse feels like using a piece of chalk to write a novel.
I use a 9x12 for the increased sensitivity and a 21" Cintiq for even more natural control.
I'm an artist too, so i'm a bit biased as far as what feels natural. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
