Pano help - 02-21-2011, 07:53 AM

I have a pano from my tripto Costa Rica last year that I am having a bear of a time fixing. Maybe some of you guys can give me some ideas. Here is a link to the file. Its large so be warned. Its not the original size though, I cut it down from 300 inches wide to 75 inches wide.

I say go back and shoot it again with 20% coverage on each shot.

You gotta shoot in manual exposure and WB. You also need to use a longer lens that doesn't vignette much on the sides. Also, shoot with your camera in portrait view (vertical) not horizontal.

What are the dimensions?

It was shot in manual the issue is the vignetting. I cant exactly shoot it again. THe original file size of the pano is 73447 x 3470 pixels, or 306 x 14.5 inches. I was on a horse back trip in the mountains when I grabed this shot so all Ihad was my 100-400 as I was expecting to see wildlife, not views like this. Carrying the 100-400 was bad enough. I cant imagine what carrying any more gear would have been like.

Being a landscape shot, I didnt think about shooting in portrait mode.

You may want to manually stitch it if you really want it to work.

BTW, Manually stitching sucks ass.

Trust me I know, I have done it before. I was hoping someone might know a trick or two. I have all the orginal files obviously and the shots were taken at about a 50% coverage. I would have thought the stiching program would have done a better job than this. Maybe its just the stitch program I have. Its the one that comes with Canon cameras.

Oh yeah. If you have CS5, try that. Or AutoPano Pro is my choice.

With CS5, you can stitch it, go into layers and paint in and out different parts of different pics.

What did you use to stitch it together? I thought I saw something about using content aware with CS5.

Open bridge, select the source pictures. Tools > Photoshop > Photomerge

Then go make a batch of coffee and let the computer work its magic. Its gonna be a while.

Whatever stitch program that comes bundled with the Canon software, I forget. I dont have it installed on my desktop as I just did a complete reinstall of my op sys.

I tried content aware work but it really fails in this situation for some reason. I have tried dodging with ok results...

On my old computer, I had a stitching take ~12 hours.
