A little of this:

A little of that:

Sprinkle in some of this:

Put it in a big photoshop pot, and simmer for a few hours, and you get this:

An ad I did for my daugthers spring dance show in high school.

A black and white version too.

Comments always welcome.

looks good, but you got work on blending them together and matching how the light and shadows fall on the subject a little better.

Forgive my ignorance. Where would a shadow fall on this image. The cougar is placed right next to her body and she has a black coat on?? I see where some light adjustments could be made but don't see where a shadow would come into play?

that's kind of my point, there is a major shadow under the cat's neck and there shouldn't be. You can tell the cat is being lit from up and camera right.

Dale,

Also note the differences in quality of light is an issue with your ingredients. Regarding the hardness/softness of the light.
The light in the image of the girl is very soft and non-directional overall. The light in the image of the cat is hard and very directional. The mixture will always show difference unless you soften one or harden the other.

I have to agree with Michael and Dan, but more with Michael. While I think it was a great idea and you are most of the way there, I noticed immediately the difference in the light on the cat vs the rest of the shot. I believe if you adjusted the softness on the cat, and fixed the shadow that Dan mentioned, you have an image that the average person wouldn't question.

I still like it though.......

Thanks Chuck. I did make a few changes, but it still needs a little work. Time for more practice and maybe some Aaron Nace lessons. I can make believable comps all day long with cars. Just having a hard with people. As stated in the original post it was something I put together for my daughters dance progam, which will get screened printed and look god awful anyway. It was worth a shot. She got a kick out of it.

here's the redo:
