retouching question... - 03-06-2011, 10:26 PM

I'm curious what methods you expert retouchers out there would use to fix this issue. Probably easy for you guys but I'm still a relatively newbie to retouching. Anyway, this is a fragment of a shot. I think a flash was left on that wasn't supposed to be and it caused a dim, yet sharp, shadow on the backdrop. Didn't see it in camera. I might just drop the entire background out and replace it, but I'm wondering how you might fix this if you were going to. I've tried just blurring the background with various blurs but that doesn't really get rid of it, and if I just do a big healing brush thing it doesn't maintain the smooth gradation from light to dark very well. Maybe I just am not using the tool right though. So, suggestions?

Have you tried varying opacity with the clone stamp? I also favor the patch tool.

Next time perhaps you might move the model further from the BG to lose some of the texture which makes this job a much easier task.

Steve,

About the only thing you can do is to use the Clone Stamp Tool at 100%.
Select the background. Pick the right source spot to use and clone it all out. There is a little bit of repetition in this example but you get the idea.
