I use Photoshop CS3--I know, I know old school. Hopefully CS5 will come with the tax return. I need some help.

One of the football guys that I work with wants to add shock waves to a picture (think of a gorilla jumpin' up and down). My editing skills are fair at best but this is a little above the pay grade. Help :). I'm attaching the image he wants them added to. Thanks guys.

I did a quick attempt to determine if this is what you are trying to do.

All of this can be done with any version of PS
1. Select the player with the lasso tool
2. Save selection
3. With player selection active, make new layer of player only, leave this layer on top.
4. Select original layer, make two new copy layers of background layer. (you should now have 4 layers, 3 of original image, one of player only, on top)
5. Select each of the layer copies you just made are reduce opacity to 50% in each.
6. Select each of the layer copies you just made, load selection of the player, and delete the player OUT of those two layers.
(you should now have original image in background layer, two layers without player, and one layer of player on top, which still should line up perfectly with player in background layer)
7. Go to one of the layers without player, select move tool, hold down Shift key and press Arrow UP key twice.
8. Go to the other layer without the player, select move tool, hold down Shift key and press Arrow DOWN key twice.

You will need to clean up around the player with layer mask.
