.cr2 files - help - 03-17-2011, 08:39 PM

Just got a ne 7D and two new cards which I have formatted and taken photos on. I have tried to import into both PSE and Lightroom and I keep getting this --

"Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types or the files are already in the folder."

Under "reason" next to each file name (in PSE) it states:

The file is damaged or is a file format that cannot be included in the organizer

I searched for one of the file and they don't exist on my hard drive. I thought that since I have a new camera and the file numbering started over that might be the problem but it doesn't appear to be.

I tried downloading as a .dng in Lightroom and a CR2 file in PSE. Can someone please tell me what's going on and how I can fix it?

Beth

2 things (and this topic has been beaten into the ground)

1: Have you updated your ACR?

2: What version of LR and PSE do you have?

Reading the Adobe support, you must have LR 2 or PSE8 AND adobe camera raw 5.6

I have LR2 and PSE7
and you'll have to forgive me but what the heck is ACR? Adobe Camera Raw? I've not specifically used it as I import into Lightroom and edit my files there.

Yes it's adobe camera raw. Go to adobes downloads and get the last ACR. Then you should be good to go.

Wrong, the latest is not compatable with her software versions.

The latest which is version 6 only works on CS5 and LR3

Well that explains why it didn't work. I'll try the links you posted. I sure do appreciate it. The instructions for Windows said there was supposed to be a camera profile file in the zip file and it wasn't there.

Have you installed the 7D software? Canon's software will read your files.
You may want to upgrade Lightroom. It has new features that are quite useful.

To install with Adobe Photoshop Elements:
NOTE: You must follow all of the new instructions in order to successfully install the Camera Raw Plug-in for Photoshop Elements.

1. Exit Photoshop Elements
2. Open the download file and double-click CameraProfiles.exe and follow the on-screen instructions
3. Open My Computer
4. Double-click Local Disk (C:)
5. Navigate to the location designated by your version of Photoshop Elements: (Please read directory carefully)

a. Photoshop Elements 7.0: Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats

b. Photoshop Elements 8.0: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 8\File Formats\

6. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
7. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as Step 5.
8. Launch Photoshop Elements

My download did not give me the camera profilespage.exe file. I'll have to play around with it again when I get home. If I upgrade to Elements 9 will it give me what I need to use my current version of Lightroom?

Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Windows : Camera Raw 5.6 update : Thank You

Mine did, there are 2 files one is the camera raw plug in and the other is the executable called Cameraprofiles. PSE and Lightroom are independent of each other.

Just go to the link, get the zip files, unzip it and follw the directions.

As far as lightroom goes, click update in the top I think the latest version is 2.7

What do you use PSE for? Lightroom 3 may be all you need.
If you update to PSE 9 you may have a mismatch with Lightroom 2.7.

I use PSE for digital some digital scrapbooking as well as editing portions of photos. I do use it - just not as often as I use Lightroom. I managed to get PSE working again for Lightroom still won't recognize my .cr2 files
