LR3 - Export & Capture time issue - 03-30-2011, 09:34 PM

Anybody know of a way to keep the sort by capture time intact when exporting jpg's in Lightroom?

It seems that after the export, the files are listed in Finder by filename. The Date Modified shows the date/time of export - not the capture time.

Basically in Lightroom I have a folder of 128 images all sorted the way I want. I need to export and keep a certain file dimension (1280 on the long side) and stay in the order that I have them originally. Make sense?

Can someone help me out here??

Thanks.

A quick work-around: In the export under "file naming" use "custom name-sequence"
the your sort will work off the file name.

I don't think you can easily change the modified date. If you are bored you could export each photo individually then you would have a couple of seconds time difference between each one.

Lightroom will still sort on the original capture time, unless you checked "minimize metadata" when exporting. That info is not included in the export.

Brian - this group of photos are from different people - so file naming conventions are all over the place.
I would really just like to keep the same sort order in Lightroom (capture time) once they are exported... but it is not happening.

I've never had to export in a particular order, but thanks to google, I did find this:

Using Photoshop Lightroom, Part 3 | CreativePro.com

Perhaps you can select the date to add to the file name (hopefully it would include the time as part of it), but I don't know if that adds to the end of the file name or not (which would not help with sorting).

Looking around, it basically looks like unless you change the file name there is nothing you can do about how your operating system sorts the files.

You can prefix the exported JPEGs with a sequence number starting at 00001. This is the only way to preserve the LR internal sort sequence. We've already had to deal with this for when multiple people shoot the same event and you need the files in capture time sequence.
