Max # of files to Import to LR at one time - 04-03-2011, 10:49 PM

I am running LR 3.4 and thought I had major problems. I shot a beauty pageant using several cards, then downloaded the individual cards as they filled on to a netbook. I then downloaded files from netbook to portable hard drive, then taking those individual folders and coping the files into one large folder to be imported into LR 3. This large folder contained 1570 RAW files from a 5d MKII. The first hundred or so files rendered fine, but as more files were added I started getting corrupted files ( the right side of the image was covered by blank or colored lines). The first couple of times there were several good images between the bad but it got progressively worse till all files were bad. This happened only after LR was completely rendering the file in the film strip (it would start ok then fall apart as LR finished it).

I was freaking out big time since this was not something that could be reshot and there were lots of customers awaiting pictures. When I started investigating I tried LR's "edit in" command and the file that showed in CS5 was just as bad. When I went into DPP outside of LR all was fine. I went checking the files that were still on the netbook and they too opened fine in picassa.

I went back and imported each of the individual folders into LR and all was fine.

So my question is, does LR have a limit on the number of files you can safely import at once? My cards are only 4 gig which gives me about 135 images per card and I want to move up to 16 gig, but not if I can't download a complete card at once.

BTW my system is a 64 bit PC with win7 64 and 64 bit version of LR and 6 gig of ram

There is a limit but no one admits it. With all the transfers from card to book to external etc. there is corruption issues.

I was worried about the corruption, but it wasn't that. The same folder of files that LR couldn't ingest properly was handled ok by other programs, such as DPP. I love my LR, but wasn't sure about a large import.
